The bedside manner of our ultrasound technician was somewhat lacking, and she was very business-like with the ultrasound, but we found out almost immediately that our bundle of joy will be a little girl! There were a few really good shots of her profile, and one super cute one of her left foot. Most, however, looked like grainy blurs with anatomical suggestions here and there. We got a few printouts and will put them in the Photo Album here, but they are going to require some imagination I think.
She was moving around a LOT during the U/S, and Joey was quite surprised. I wasn’t, really, because I’d been feeling that for 3 weeks or so. What surprised me was how BIG she was. Last appointment (a month prior) she was 5 inches. This appointment she was close to 10 inches! Doh! That’s a long creature to be storing in my midsection, and we are only half-way there on length. At about 12 ounces, we are only 1/10th on the weight, too.
Speaking of weight, as of today, I am up about 3 pounds total from pre-pregnancy weight. That’s much better than most women, I gather, but being a large gal, the doctors didn’t really expect me to gain much overall at all. Fine by me. I’m sorta tilting side to side when I walk now, and while I’m not as tired as I was in the first trimester, overall, though, my energy levels get tapped fairly quickly. Lots of energy being expended growing that 10 inch little person!
Yesterday, Joey and I made a purchase of faith, and bought our first item as parents: a cute yellow onesie that has a fuzzy duck on it, and a bee, and the words “Cute as can bee” on it 🙂
Neither of us want to go overboard on “make everything pink” so I guess you could say we’re going with a gender-neutral theme for now. There will be no shortage of cute, however!
Anyhow, right now life is pretty good. It’s lovely in Houston these days (early Spring). I just feel like a uterus with limbs, but it’s a good feeling. Life marches on, and soon our family will be a 100% genuine FAMILY!
