Well, we took a tour of the hospital this past Saturday, which was pretty helpful. We now know where to pull in and park, how much that will cost, where the triage and L&D rooms are, as well as where post-partum is. Probably make a few firedrill runs from home and the office to the hospital, just to make sure we don’t have to THINK about driving too much, when the time comes. Most likely, we will go ahead and register at St. Joseph’s downtown — it’s 2 miles away, and there’s also a little family history there. My brother Todd was born there in 1975. So, that’s a nice tie-in 🙂
The last few weeks have been fairly easy, pregnancy-wise, and in the last couple days, all the kicking I’ve felt on the inside has become VISIBLE on the outside. Not only can I feel the kicks from outside, but this morning I just watched my belly jump around a little bit. That was neat and weird and creepy at the same time. Anyone remember Alien? Hahah. Joey hasn’t been right near by just yet when she’s kicking, but it’s probably only a matter of time. I’ve noticed most activity seems to be around 7am, 8pm and half an hour after eating. Got a few good jabs in the ribs/gut after lunch today. Enough so that I almost contemplated unzipping a little bit, but decided not to, since I’m at a client site. Heh.
Upcoming things to deal with: whether to take a birthing class. Lots of different ways to go, and lots of different price ranges. This will require some thinking and discussing. I’m not sure how I feel about “going for the gusto” and INSISTING on a drug-free delivery. My cousin Jorcee insists that epidurals are “wonderful.” Considered a doula, but I think I’d really rather only have the doctors and Joey in the room for the delivery. (Joey, btw, noticed that there was a recliner in the delivery room which was positioned to line up directly with the uh… “money shot.” I think he was trying to figure out if that chair is repositionable, hahaha.) In addition to classes, we should probably get started on figuring out the baby furniture. We will use Mom’s crib (which was HERs as a baby, as well as mine and my siblings) and highchair, but that leaves a newborn bed (co-sleeper, probably), stroller, changing station, car seat, and all sorts of other things to figure out.
Let the lists begin!!
