Wednesday and Thursday night brought to little treasures that I haven’t seen in MONTHS – actual full night’s sleep. Ahh. I realize that’s a luxury which will be rare for the next many months, but still, it felt good to have that injected in the middle of the week for a couple nights.
Speaking of sleep. Mom brought down the crib which she slept in as a baby, and which Jill, Todd, April and I did as well. It needs some work, but looks to be usable. So, we have most of the hardware for it, and have borrowed Todd’s “mouse” hand sander, to remove the paint (which Amber’s infancy — Jill’s daughter — saw added to the crib… it was originally just stained, I believe), and repaint it. The biggest challenge with that so far has been finding a design that’s agreeing with what’s in my head.
Joey and I both like the kind of muted “vintage” type colors, and greens/blushes/creams/pale yellows seem to be a good palette. Color is easy enough, but the artwork is a tad elusive. We want to use a “lambs and ivy” theme (see what humming a song in BRU can lead to? haha), but since we are going with a more “vintage” color scheme, the artwork should be more vintage as well. There are lots of “clipart” looking lambs out there, but the little one that’s frolicking around in my head is more of the 1940s-style drawing with rosy cheeks. Haven’t found that one online yet. If you come across one, post a URL or link here 🙂
So, the crib’s about as close to nesting as I’ve gotten so far. I’m eager to get started on it, but it obviously won’t be finished until we know what kind of picture of a lamb will go on it! The ivy part is easy, and will probably be stencils of some kind. Might even put some “counting sheep” motif on the inside of the crib (as if babies pay attention to directives of “go to sleep”).
