Well, power went out around 10:30 Friday night (the 12th) as the first winds started coming through the area. We lit some candles and puttered around. Joey set himself up head towards the footboard in the bed to watch the show, and I fell asleep on the chaise, feeding Ivy. Around 3:30 am the REAL winds and rain came through and that was the eyewall. I’ll write up a summary of the first 24 hours later (along with some post-Ike photos) but after 20 hours of no A/C, we fled north to Charles and Tina Deitrich’s place east of Dallas (Charles is a friend of Joey’s from 3rd grade onward, and performed our wedding ceremony) to recapture creature comforts. We are one of the lucky ones with our power re-established on Monday sometime, and so here we are 3 days after a big hurricane, back home like nothing happened (only the spoiled chopped tomatoes in the refrigerator and the solid block of ice in the ice maker tray would clue anyone in).
