Even though we’ve got two dogs now, I found myself still looking through the available dogs at the HSPCA and the city/county shelters. Each time Joey and I went to the HSPCA, we both wanted to just bring everything home with us. Well, I decided to sort of compromise, and signed up as a volunteer to foster animals. A couple weeks ago I went to the first round of training, and then again this past Saturday I went to my second round, and came home with this little cutie I named “Clara” 🙂
She’s a couple weeks too young to be adopted yet, so we are homing her until she is old enough (which is 8 weeks). She’s a 3.25lb rottweiler with incredibly soft and thick fur, needly teeth and claws, and a pretty playful personality. She follows me around like a duckling 🙂
Nice thing about this is it’s on our own terms/timetables, and even if there aren’t any dogs set aside specifically for fostering, we can chose to bring an adoptable dog home for a weekend or so to give it a break from being at the shelter (the director of fostering described that as “The Cage Crazies”). So, this should be a good learning experience, and it definitely helps the animals and the HSPCA. Here are some photos of Clara:
