Ivy gave me a nice Mother’s Day present a day early (in addition to the lovely InStyler hair gear 🙂 ) – she began to crawl! She had been up on all fours rocking back and forth for a couple weeks prior, and was just oooohhhh so close to taking those first “steps,” but while visiting Mom the day before Mother’s day, she finally got all four limbs coordinated, and made her first forward progress.
Since then, improvement has been RAPID. She goes pretty much EVERYWHERE she wants now, and can seamlessly move from crawling to sitting up and vice versa. Her favorite place to crawl is either: wherever the floor is dirtiest, wherever there’s something inappropriate for her mouth lying around or to the entertainment center cabinet in the living room (so she can play with the doors up and bang them open and shut).
It doesn’t seem that long ago that she noticed what fun it was to bounce bounce bounce in her bouncer, and it really WASN’T that long ago (mid-April or so) that we got a walker through Freecycle and let her motor around us while we did busy work in the kitchen or living room. So, she’s gone from rolling front to back/back to front at about 6 months, to crawling at 9.5 months. Cruising is not very far off, as she is starting to pull up on things, and then walking is even closer! She has the leg strength for walking, but the balance is… well, let’s just say she does the hula dance still, while “standing” 🙂
Anyhow, I wanted to share a couple videos I put together of her first few moments of mobility (plus, as any decent video producer does these days, there’s a companion video to the “feature presentation”). Without further ado (let them load up before you watch… may take a few minutes):
“Ivy Moves” (and Bonus Footage).
Enjoy! 🙂
