Earlier today I found out that the annual Christmas-tree lighting downtown and “official” beginning of the Christmas season in town was tonight, so I decided to go. Ivy and I had a blast — the lawn in front of City Hall was PACKED… the O’Jays were playing their biggest hits, Mayor Parker addressed the crowds, and everyone was wearing these lighted Santa hats, given out free by the local big-time energy company.
Lots of people, lots of fun, very festive. There was a countdown from 5, the tree was lit, and we were treated to a low-altitude fireworks show before our very eyes, which would rival the 4th of July spectacles in many other cities! The weather was perfect at about 70 degrees, and a slight breeze. Lots of families, and no rowdy behavior — perfect fun for me and Ivy.
She rode my shoulders most of the time, and was able to spot Santa on stage at the end of the last song before the tree was lit. Spent most of the ride home saying “Mi Santa! Mi Santa!”
Here are some pictures and videos from the evening’s festivities 🙂
