Off we went to Galveston today for the annual Dickens on the Strand celebration. It is sort of like the Renaissance Festival except a different time period and closer to the ocean. This was Jane’s birthday present from Holly, but we all got to enjoy it. There was the usual festival stuff like music, stage acts, vendors, and a parade. I enjoyed the tour of the Ship best. Ivy was well-behaved the entire time and thoroughly enjoyed a sucker given to her by Father Christmas. Later, when she had completely consumed the candy, she surprised us by asking for the “basura” – it means trash in spanish. We didn’t know she knew that word or even how to ask for the trash when she was ready to throw something away. After the parade, we marched down to the Seawall and had lunch at the Rainforest Cafe (always a treat!). This time we actually took the River Adventure ride – which actually frightened Ivy. It is funny how she seems to afraid of almost nothing, but for some reason the noise of River Adventure Ride had her clinging for dear life and even crying a little.
