So Ivy has been imitating some of my behavior for awhile. Oddly enough, she’s picked up on “female” things which I do far less than most women, probably. Makeup, dressing up, heels (I own ONE pair, and doubt she’s ever seen me wearing them), dishes, etc. In some respects, she’s a very girly girl.
Folks have asked me in the past what my thoughts on kids and ear piercings are, and I’ve said I won’t do it for her, but will wait for her to ask. Well, today she asked. Repeatedly. I explained that it will hurt like when she got shots (which was not a traumatic thing for her — she often says she needs to go back to the doctor for shots, when she has a cough) but she was not deterred, and even though she’s 4, I got the sense she knew what she was asking for, so today we combined a little shopping with ear piercing. I’m so proud of her, too — she sat so very still (like she does for haircuts and manicures) and had only the tiniest of flinches and a facial expression that more resembled indigestion than pain.
Immediately afterwards, she was all smiles and in fact a little hyperactive. So, welcome to the world of ear piercings, Ivy! She’s growing up awfully fast 🙂
