Helms Elementary’s 5th grade class got all herded up and put on a bus to visit the state capitol of Austin. I volunteered to go as a chaperone. Several other parents went, each getting 5 or 6 kids to look after. I ended up only with 3 – Ivy, Natalie, and Elijah. I have to say I was totally lucky because my 3 kids were well-behaved all day long! I enjoyed every minute of it, except for the 6 hour (total) bus ride. Ugh! I used to hate riding the bus when I was a kid, and now I remember why. Those things are just not built for comfort.
We went to the Capitol building and took a grand tour. Our tour-guide was totally weird, but supposedly everyone in Austin is weird. So I guess that’s normal. She told us all about the history of the building, and also explained how the House and the Senate worked. It was all excellent!
Then we had pizza on the lawn.
Great day!
